Rationale 1: I developed this website in order to better the communication between parents and teachers. I also developed this website to be used as a tool for parents and students. The website includes classroom information, policies and procedures, as well as a schedule. It includes a link to the weekly newsletter along with pictures throughout the school year. Perhaps the most important aspect of the website is a list of resources for parents and students . These resources foster active inquiry on the part of parents as well as students. The resources include interactive, educational websites as well as sites that relate to our current areas of study in the classroom. By having the website available to parents and students, it offers a way to communicate on a daily basis. Parents can find out information about their child’s progress and district wide information through links that are listed on the site.
This website has been one of the most beneficial instruments that I have incorporated as a result of my studies. Students and parents have made this website a part of their daily lives. I have had a tremendous response from both parents and students. I appreciate the ease at which I can update and make changes to the website to keep everyone informed. When I have a request from a student or parent, I add it to the website so that everyone can benefit from it. The fact that it changes frequently keeps students motivated to utilize it. Students enjoy learning through the interactive websites. They get immediate feedback while practicing and reinforcing basic skills that we are working on in the classroom. The website has clearly been very effective in aiding in communication while putting an emphasis on 21st century technology.

6.K.3 The teacher understands the importance of nonverbal as well as verbal communication.
Verbal and nonverbal communication is evident in everyday classroom interactions. My website has been a valuable asset to communicate with parents and students in a nonverbal way, but yet pass on a tremendous amount of information and resources to them. It is important for students to be able to understand verbal instructions in the classroom as well as the nonverbal information that is available to them via the website.
6.S.5 The teacher knows how to use a variety of media communication tools, including audiovisual aids and computers, to enrich learning opportunities.
The website that I developed uses technology to enrich learning opportunities that emphasize what we are learning in the classroom. Students are highly motivated because the website allows many different opportunities to learn and these resources are all interactive.
6.D.2 The teacher values many ways in which people seek to communicate and encourages many modes of communication in the classroom.
To attempt to help meet the diverse needs of students and parents, communication has to be offered in a variety of ways. I try to communicate with parents as often as possible, but schedules are sometimes difficult to coordinate. Parents and students enjoy the flexibility that having a classroom website offers, as well as the up-to-date information. It is a non-threatening way for parents not only to find out about what their child is doing in school, but also have access to a variety of resources.
